My Role
3D Digital Matte Painting | Nuke Projections
Cliff Top
The clifftop sequence had largely been completed when I joined this production however the director called for changes in the light direction. I worked up a series of concepts which were then used by the 3D team as a guide. Once the new 3D was in place I did a final matte painting pass to integrate the 3D elements better.
No Mans Land
This shot was created as a full matte painting. Alan Sonneman blocked the shot out and then I picked it up to complete. It was important to integrated elements from the following sequence as it established the no mans land the heroes would be travelling across.
Beach
This sequence made extensive use of a 3D cliff asset that had been in production for several months. The matte painting department then picked this up during the final stage of production to do subtle paint over bringing extra realism.
Village Set Extensions
For this sequence, I was required to complete a partially built set by working up basic renders of a 3D church and rooftops. I was also responsible for replacing the skies to create a moodier look.
Village Aerial Shot
This shot was one of the highlights of the show for me as I was tasked with painting up the environment around a collapsing church, a key moment in the story. Only very basic geometry was provided by the layout team.
